Michael is the President and Founder of the Fatty Liver Alliance and has been a leader in the area of liver disease, in both commercial and not-for-profit organizations for over 30 years. He has held senior leadership roles including a Business Unit Director in Virology and Oncology at Hoffmann-La Roche, Director of Donor Relations at Canadian Blood Services, and as a sales and marketing leader at Schering-Plough. He was a Director on the board of a Canadian liver focused charity for 9 years (National Marketing and Communications Committee Member. Strategy Committee Member).
He is currently acting as the Chair for the Global Liver Institute's Liver Action Network. Michael is a member of community advisory boards for the Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver (CASL), Regeneron's NASH POWER Council, and PPD/Evidera Patient Voice in NASH Patient Advisory Board (PAB). Michael was an AASLD collaborator on the Fatty Liver Disease Research and Action Priorities consensus statement, an EASL participant in NASH consensus statement development, an AASLD participant at the Delphi expert panel developing consensus around the nomenclature of NAFLD.
In 2023, he has participated as a stakeholder at Mosaic (A multi-stakeholder multi-specialty NASH Trialists Think Tank), and is a member of the Liver Forum.

Mark is the Chair of our Financial Committee, and an amicable, high energy leader with extensive experience navigating ambitious change agendas. He’s recognized as a builder of resilient, diverse teams capable of adjusting to the ever-changing demands of today’s work environment. He brings a broad multi-industry perspective in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors.
He has sound business acumen with experience overseeing multi-million-dollar operating budgets and has a track record of successfully reimagining employee and customer experiences, community engagement and technology adoption. He’s well versed in strategic planning, project and portfolio management, stakeholder relations and Board governance.
He is an active advocate for the betterment of communities through local, national and international efforts both professionally and in his volunteerism. He is currently a Director on the Board of the Ottawa Safety Council, an organization committed to the effective blending of various modes of transport in the city with the intent of getting people to their destinations safely and efficiently. He also served as a Director on the Board of Global Blood Fund, a not-for-profit organization engaged in improving blood collections in under-developed countries. He has volunteered as an On-scene responder for Victim Services in Toronto and as a dad to an adolescent son, he has volunteered his time in support of their local hockey association.

Dr. Joshi is the Chair of our Medical Advisory Committee, and a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. After completing her medical degree at Western University, London, Ontario, Dr Supriya Joshi completed residency in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at The University of Toronto. Following completion of her GI fellowship she accepted a CIHR sponsored fellowship in Hepatology at The University of Toronto with Dr. Jenny Heathcote. After working at Toronto Western Hospital as a clinical Hepatologist supervising and educating learners in an autoimmune liver disease clinic for 3 years she has since been working solely at The Credit Valley Hospital, Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, Ontario which is one of the largest community hospitals in Canada. She has a special interest in autoimmune liver disease, viral hepatitis and fatty liver disease. She enjoys speaking and educating others on these topics, especially regarding the incoming volume of fatty liver disease and its impact and management with Hepatology. She is an active member of Canadian Clinicians for Therapeutic Nutrition (CCTN) which is a group aiming to educate Canadians on whole food nutrition as therapy for the epidemic of nutrition induced chronic disease. She has been writing and educating about the negative impact of sugar and poor diet on metabolic health and is actively taking measures to become knowledgeable in Obesity Medicine, which has tremendous overlap in patients with Metabolic Syndrome and NASH. Outside of medicine she is a mom to 3 young kids and enjoys travel, hot yoga and a good HIT class.

In 2007 when the CBC wanted to manage its brand during the employee lock-out Philippe’s pen was behind their communications. Philippe gave Buckley’s cough syrup a taste of what it feels like to be Canada’s best-selling cough syrup. In 2009 GWP named, positioned and launched Intact Insurance, Canada’s largest home and auto insurer. In 2016 Philippe brand engineered Borrowell.com one of Canada’s leading Fintechs. In 2020 so far Philippe and GWP launched Pascal Financial the first fully digital AI powered Behavioural Science informed wealth advisor platform. We continue to grow Xplore Mobile a challenger mobility brand in Manitoba. Since COVID-19 hit GWP has been engineering a campaign for Health Storylines who are a vital part of the Roche Canada Data Science Coalition. Our goal, to get Canadians to track their developing health to illuminate the blind spots health authorities are plagued by. We are working with World Energy a brilliant and visionary US low carbon energy solutions provider. We are refreshing the Genome Canada brand as they work tirelessly from coast to coast to illuminate the novel coronavirus code. We are currently working on a brand architecture project for a leading national brand in the chronic pain management business and are busy supporting a brand campaign for Canada’s Global Life Sciences Venture in the field of bioinnovations. Philippe is often sought as a commentator on a broad range of marketing topics. In his limited spare time, Philippe has been a guest lecturer at Canadian colleges and universities and taught copywriting for two years at OCAD University in Toronto. He is currently an expert panelist with the FGS Fintech Growth Syndicate, an Advisor to Abacus, the Facebook Agency and is on the board of the Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation and is the Chairman of its fund raising committee. Philippe, a student of Behavioural Economics (mentoring and championing an emerging brand in this field called Syntoniq) Philippe’s motto, which he minted in 2020, is “I stand Corrected”.

Cheryl is the Chair of our Patient Education and Advocacy Committee and a Nurse Practitioner with over 25 years of specialization in Hepatology and liver transplant and is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Western University- Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing. She has worked in both the public and private sectors of healthcare, including holding national roles within the specialty pharmacy industry. She continues to provide healthcare industry and medical legal consulting and maintains a clinical practice in Hepatology and addictions medicine. She is an Associate Fellow of AASLD. She has been an invited speaker at local, national, and international meetings, and has co-authored many abstracts and publications. Cheryl is a past President of the Canadian Association of Hepatology Nurses and was part of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease- Hepatology Associates Committee. She was a co-chair of the inaugural International Liver Nurses meeting in 2018. Cheryl has acted as an advisor for various Hepatology and liver transplant related projects nationally. She is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Association for Study of Liver Disease, Canadian Association for Study of Liver Disease, and the Canadian Association for Hepatology Nurses.

She worked at Liver Study Unit, Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto from 2006 to July, 2014. A clinic physician at Hepatitis Center form 2014 and Liver Study Unit from 2014 to 2016 and with Vircan from 2016 to 2019. She is a Lead Family Physician for Family Health Net Work at Albany Medical Clinic where she also founded Primary Liver Clinic.
